Woop.pk
A carefully curated e-commerce marketplace.
As a leading managed e-commerce service provider, a key value proposition Shopistan.pk offered was a multibrand marketplace where multiple brands’ products would all be sold, with the UX and CX managed by us. The mandate Ali Aziz (CEO and founder) gave me was simple: It should look and perform like nothing else in Pakistan. Our team designed a unique integrated experience, connecting the online experience with the offline experience. We thought about, then designed for - everything from targeting the right customers - to what their landing experience should be - to the color of the envelope the receipt was delivered in.
Sadly, Woop was retired by Shopistan years ago. However,it was a great design and build exercise, as it tested all of our teams to the fullest.
All teams firing on all cylinders; it’s the only way to test a startup and see what it’s capable of.
Some UX considerations.
For me, the most notable parts of the user experience designed were
The menu structure. It had three unique manifestations - desktop, tablet and mobile app.
The scrolling mechanism for product listing pages, especially useful curated collections.
Menu Versions
On the desktop version, I wanted to try and avoid building the regular ‘mega-menu’. Penning all the categories down, I figured that a sketched figure - man, woman or child based on what was selected from the top level of navigation, could be made fun and actually more practical.
I wanted to have the menu update with only the information the use was hovering over/ interested in, and specified each action and animation in full detail.
For the mobile app, I designed a geometric method of menu expand/collapse, in combination with a scroll.
(I know - the choice of colors is hideous…not something I’ll stand by today though..)
For tablets, the opening screen had a persistent menu on the right hand side. Each choice would lead to the relevant sections with detailed listings and products.
